MWC Barcelona 2022

Returning to MWC Barcelona

By: Mory Lin

After almost two years of lockdowns, online meetings, and virtual events, it is a delight to be able to attend an in-person event once again. And what an event it is: MWC Barcelona 2022 – the number one leading event for the telco and connectivity industry worldwide. MWC has been a household name in the industry for years, and its reputation has withstood the pandemic flawlessly.

Day1-MWC-EntranceTens of thousands of industry professionals, subject matter experts, and entrepreneurs from all over the world have traveled to Barcelona to join us in discovering the latest innovations, attending inspiring keynotes, and building new relationships. I am glad to see so many people finding their way to the event once again. And as I look back at the first day of MWC, at the engagement during in-person meetings and impromptu conversations with customers, partners, and industry peers, it becomes clear how valuable it remains to connect face to face.

One element that has already drawn a lot of attention and visitors is the broad range of demos at the Supermicro booth. In addition to several amazing live demonstrations, people are drawn to take a look at Supermicro systems optimized for 5G, edge, and cloud deployments. Next to familiar systems, including compact fanless servers, BigTwin, and the high-density SuperBlade for core data centers, are brand-new server models that were only recently announced, such as the SuperEdge and the Intel Xeon D-based systems.

Day2-MWC-Demos-1The SuperEdge delivers a new level of high-density performance to the edge, in a 2U, short-depth form factor which features 3 individual nodes. Each node is equipped with a 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processor and offers 3 PCI-E slots which can be outfitted with a range of different add-on cards. I’ve already had some fascinating conversations about the possibilities created by this increased versatility and performance for edge deployments in remote locations.

Then there is the new Intel Xeon D processor, Intel’s latest SoC, which was released only last week. Thanks to our strong relationship with Intel, we have already been able to work on the development of a range of systems, which are fully optimized and tested for the Intel Xeon D-1700 and the Intel Xeon D-2700 processors. Several Xeon D-based systems and motherboards are on display at our booth.

As we conclude a thrilling first day of MWC, I am looking forward to what the coming days have in store. If you have a chance, be sure to visit us at booth #5D66.
