MWC Barcelona 2022

Teaming Up at the Edge

By: Jeff Sharpe

One of the great things about working in the edge and IoT industry is the number of awesome partners you get to work with. For MWC 2022, we decided to bundle our resources with some of these partners, providing a platform to demonstrate the kind of innovative solutions that are made possible using Supermicro technology. Showing their edge applications at the Supermicro booth (#5D66) this week are Taqtile, SmartPoint.io, Ouster, and VSBLTY.

Augmented Reality for Industry 4.0 Applications

Day2-InteractiveDemos-1Taqtile builds and provides a virtual learning platform that leverages AR at the edge to train and upskill a company’s workforce to work in the many challenging environments. Users of this platform have access to a wealth of information, including manuals, repair history, and the latest techniques to solve problems that require manual skills while they are in the field. At MWC, Taqtile is demonstrating their solution using an HoloLens 2 headset, which is connected to a monitor so viewers can see directly what the user is experiencing.

Digital Display for the Intelligent Edge

SmartPoint.io’s technology brings the data center to the edge, wherever it may be – on the sidewalk, in a store, around the office, or any other place where interactive user technology can provide value. The SmartPoint.io hub is a high-performance interactive kiosk, which packs powerful computing resources and next-generation wireless communications under its hood. The SmartPoint.io hub captures data and analytics from its environment, and uses this data to provide relevant and tailored content to its user.

Computer Vision for Smart Cities, Retail, and Transportation

Using artificial intelligence and machine learning, VSBLTY technology delivers targeted display content at the point of purchase, generates real-time analytics based on computer vision, and provides state-of-the-art facial recognition and weapon detection. A demonstration of VSBLTY technology has been integrated into the SmartPoint.io kiosk in the Supermicro booth.

Using Digital Lidar for Smart Infrastructure

Using active sensing technology, Ouster is showing its Lidar-based capability to detect and track movement around the Supermicro booth and provide accurate and real-time analytics on activities in its vicinity. By using lidar’s spatial awareness capabilities, Ouster sensors can detect and identify a range of objects that are moving and determine patterns and even specific incidents.

Advancements in computing performance and networking technology are dramatically changing the world we live in. I am proud to see Supermicro systems, featuring 3rd Gen Intel Xeon processors, powering so many amazing new solutions like the ones that we see at our MWC booth, and am looking forward to discovering what other solutions we can help to build with our partners.
