JumpStart Process Overview
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I access the JumpStart demo?
A. Go to https://www.supermicro.com/x12jumpstart and use credentials provided to you.
You will be presented with options for either a terminal session or for a VNC remote desktop session that will work in your HTML5 browser.
Q. Why is the website requesting clipboard access?
A. Apache Guacamole has a clipboard functionality so you can copy/ paste commands and do file transfers transparently via SFTP and a HTML5 browser. Clipboard access is required for that functionality to work.
Q. How many sessions can I have open at once?
A. Currently we are limiting the sessions to one VNC and one terminal session per server for this NDA demo.
Q. What operating system is on the server?
A. Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS with a desktop environment installed (for VNC remote desktop)
Q. Can I change passwords?
A. You can change the password on your Guacamole server that acts as a proxy to the test server that is behind a firewall. If you change credentials on the Ubuntu server, the proxy/ jump server will fail to connect.
Passwords are randomly generated for each user and are only stored on the machines. If you change the password, the system will need to go through a wipe/ re-image cycle.
Q. What happens to the server after I am done with my demo?
A. The server is manually secure erased, the BIOS and firmware are reflashed, and the OS is re-installed with new credentials.
Q. Do I get IPMI out-of-band management access?
A. This is not being provided as part of this demo. We also ask that you do not change the IPMI credentials since that breaks the wipe/ re-provisioning scripts we use.
Q. Is the server on a public IP address?
A. No. The server can reach out to the Internet to get files, but it is not directly addressable to the Internet. We are using the jump server as a proxy so you can get access to the server you are authorized on.
Q. Should I do sensitive data processing on the demo server?
A. No. Please use only anonymized data since this server may have different security policies than are required within your organization.
Q. If I leave data on the server, will it be backed-up?
A. No. We are completely erasing and resetting servers for each demo and are not making backups. Please do not store important/ sensitive data on the demo platforms because they will be erased.
