Gold Presentation – Hardware in a Virtualized World: The Impact of COTS Hardware in a Standalone 5G Network

Operators used to be multi-protocol with every network service having its own hardware silo. With the adoption of every service over IP, Operators could start to converge their networks onto a common platform. As services decoupled from the transport layer, they transformed into VNFs enabling fully software-defined networks. AT&T took the lead with CORD, and then 5G adopted a Cloud Native Architecture. CRAN and vRAN brought these techniques to the RAN. While software gets all the attention, all that NFV still needs hardware to execute. This session looks at the role of and benefit of COTS hardware as the foundation of modern standalone 5G networks.

Date, Time: September 24th 12:50pm-1:05pm CST
Speaker: Michael Clegg - VP & GM 5G, Embedded/IoT
